Our business name, Deep Water Creek, Inc., is all about honoring my Curl family heritage. My family hails from a small fishing village named Deep Water Creek, once located in Southern Labrador. My Grandfather, affectionately named ‘Skipper Saul’ and my father were both born there. Skipper Saul was a fisherman. Take a look at the historical photos slide show below the more current day overlook photo.
Dating back to the 1800’s, this community was probably the most inhospitable fishing place on the Labrador coast and was subject to severe fall and winter storms, but the Curl, Perry, and Rumble families lived here year-round and made a living from the sea. It was resettled to Fox Harbour (St. Lewis) in the early 1940’s, with the Curl family being the last to leave.
